Subject: Requesting safe, harassment-free and secure jobs
To the leadership and organizers of the [major national political parties] of Canada,
A major challenge for Canadian workers is access to good jobs in safe and respectful workplaces.
Our non-profit group aims to end harassment in BC workplaces, and help people find and keep jobs where they are treated fairly.
Lack of access to good jobs exposes working people to unfair treatment and leaves all Canadians who are dependent on earning an income more vulnerable to unemployment and extreme economic hardship. The downward spiral of damage resulting from problems at work can needlessly ruin lives.
Conversely, improved job conditions benefit all parties. When people feel safe and respected at work there is less turnover, less absenteeism and greater productivity. Successful job seekers who find good work become long-term higher income tax payers rather than clients for expensive public services. And at the community level workplaces offering secure employment will support growing, healthy communities and offer stability to families.
Therefore our BC-based non-profit group is making this request to the national political parties on behalf of all Canadians who need to work for a living:
Will [your] candidates now running for election as Members of Parliament promise if successful to make good faith and measurable efforts during their term of office to protect the right of all Canadians for access to safe, harassment-free and secure jobs.
Our group welcomes the opportunity to dialogue with you on this important issue.
